Nenang Pawo

Pawo Rinpoche ( Tib: dpa ' bo rin po che, also: Nenang pawo Rinpoche or Nyenang pawo Rinpoche, Chinese Bawo Renboqie巴沃 仁波切or Bawu Ningboche巴渥 宁波 车etc.) is the name of an important Trülku Line of Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism from the Nenang Monastery. The pawo Rinpoche apply in this school traditionally as an emanation of the Bodhisattva Vajrapani.

History

The incarnation line of Nenang pawo Rinpoche is closely connected with the Gyelwa Karmapa, which are the respective highest lamas of the Karma Kagyu.

The first pawo Rinpoche was born in the mid- 15th century in Yarlung, central Tibet. He received the title pawo ( hero ) because he attributed to supernatural abilities. On the advice of the population and the 7th Karmapa Chodrag Gyatsho the first pawo Rinpoche Sekhar Guthog chose ( Tib: sras mkhar dgu thog, also: lho brag rdzong ) as its headquarters.

The second pawo Rinpoche Tsuglag Threngwa was a student of the 8th Karmapa Dorje Mikyö and known for its high scholarship. He wrote, inter alia, historical texts, a well-known commentary on Shantideva Bodhicharyavatara, an extensive work on astrology and biographies.

The 5th pawo Rinpoche moved the headquarters of pawo Rinpoche after the political upheavals at the time of the 5th Dalai Lama 1673/1674 in the Nenang Monastery, located near the Tshurphu Monastery. The title Nenang pawo Rinpoche therefore dates from this period.

The 7th pawo Rinpoche established at the time of the 13th Karmapa Dorje Düdul good relations with Nepal. 1758, he was responsible along with the 7 Drugchen Rinpoche, Kagyu Thrinle Shingta ( 1718-1766 ) for the Kathog of Rigzin UMOSLYGlFGmbJs Norbu ( 1698-1755 ) initiated reconstruction of the Great Stupa at Swayambhunath.

The 10th pawo Rinpoche was recognized by the 15th Karmapa Dorje Khakyab. In 1959, he fled along with the 16th Karmapa Rangjung Dorje Rigpe before the People's Liberation Army to Bhutan. Later he traveled to Kalimpong. On request of the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatsho he was 1962-1966 teacher at the Sanskrit University in Benares. After this time, he lived for some years in the Dordogne. In 1986, he founded the Nenang Phüntshog Choling Monastery near Boudhanath, where he remained until his death.

The 11th pawo Rinpoche was recognized in 1994 by Ugyen Dorje Thrinle. He was enthroned in 1995 Nenang Monastery and the name " Tenzin Kunzang Chokyi Nyima Tsuglag " it was given to him. After fleeing Ugyen Thrinle Dorje from Tibet Tenzin Kunzang Chokyi Nyima Tsuglag was taken away from his monastery and brought to Lhasa.
