Ness Ziona

Nes Ziona (Hebrew נס ציונה, Arabic نيس تسيونا, DMG Tsiyūnā NIS ) is a city in the Center District of Israel. The name means " sign to Zion " and is named after Jer 4.6 ELB: "Lift up an ensign in the direction towards Zion. "

Location

The city is situated on the edge of the Judean hill country Shephelah. Neighboring towns are Rehovot in the south, Netzer Sereni in the east, Rishon LeZion in the north and Beit Chanan in the West.

History

The place dates back to a good with a citrus plantation, the 1878 Templer Reisler in Wadi Chanin docked itself. After his wife and children had died from malaria, he emigrated 1882 Odessa back to Europe. There he agreed to a land swap with Re'uven a teacher. Reisler received the land in Russia and teachers the plantation in the Holy Land. Teachers founded there in 1883 with his son Moses and further recruited settlers in Jaffa, the Tel Aviv settlement, but colloquially the name Nachalath Re'uven sat (Good Re'uven ) by. 1891 Michael Halperin bought more land in the neighborhood and founded Nes Ziona, merged with the teacher settlement.

Population

In September 2003, the population was 26,400, with an annual population growth of 2.9%. The status of a city was 16 km ² large village in 1992.

Economy

The town is the seat of the Israel Institute for Biological Research ( IIBR ), the zuarbeitet the Ministry of Defence and about 350 employees.
