Geography
Geographical Location
The municipality of Neunkirchen is located on the southwestern edge of the Neckar-Odenwald -Kreis in the landscape of the "Little Odenwald " in the Neckar valley adjacent 130-430 meters. The municipality is located in the Neckar -Odenwald Nature Park. Not far north of the village rises the Schwarzbach.
Neunkirchen is about 16 km from the city of Mosbach large circle, about 20 km from the large district town of Sinsheim and 35 km from Heidelberg.
Community structure
The municipality of Neunkirchen part of the former municipality Neckar Katzenbach. To Neckar Katzenbach (157 inhabitants in September 2006 ) include the houses Minne Burger brickyard. To Neunkirchen in the borders of 1971 (1662 inhabitants ) is one of the homestead Leidenharterhof.
History
The villages Neunkirchen and Neckar Katzenbach emerged as clearing settlements of the diocese of Worms from the 11th century. While Neckar Katzenbach already in 1080 first mentioned to Neunkirchen can just grab historically with the mention of his church in 1298. In the 13th century belonged to both towns and the neighboring castles to the kingdom owned by Wimpfen.
After the end of the Hohenstaufen imperial rule the castles and places came into the sphere of the local vassals until 1349 came by purchase into the possession of the Palatinate. In Neunkirchen, there is a Catholic church and a Protestant church. In addition to the Catholic Church there is a memorial stone of 1929 for Auguste Pattberg.
