New York State Bridge Authority

The New York State Bridge Authority ( NYSBA ) is a non-profit corporation ( public benefit corporation ) of the U.S. State of New York operator and partially builder of five road bridges over the Hudson River. It was founded on 31 March 1932 to finance through the issuance of government bonds to build the Rip Van Winkle Bridge between the towns of Hudson and Catskill, and these, supported by toll revenues to entertain.

1933, the NYSBA which opened three years ago, located in Poughkeepsie Mid-Hudson Bridge of the State of New York Department of Public Works and 1940, the previously operated by a private company Bear Mountain Bridge, near Peekskill.

Between 1954 and 1957, was constructed under the direction of the NYSBA Kingston- Rhinecliff Bridge, which carries a state road between the two eponymous places Kingston and Rhinebeck on the Hudson. Also under NYSBA responsibility of the first part of the Newburgh - Beacon Bridge was built between Newburgh and Beacon from 1960 to 1963, which carries the highway I-84. To increase capacity, it was in 1980 supplemented by a parallel second Hudson Crossing.

On all five bridges the NYSBA rises during operation in west-east direction of a toll fee of one dollar per vehicle; in East-West relations, the use of bridges, however, is free.
