Next Time We Love is an American melodrama by Edward H. Griffith in 1936, in which Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart took over the lead roles. The film is based on the novel Next Time We Live by Ursula Parrott, which appeared in 1935.
Action
Cicely actually works as a teacher. When she wants to get on the train after the holidays to pick up their work again, asks her friend, the newspaper reporter Christopher Tyler, her what would happen if they would not take this train. Cicely stays with him and marry both spontaneously. His newlywed wife now accepted that her husband will be traveling a lot as a foreign correspondent - so she knows him, and under this condition she married him. And so it is not her husband, to whom she revealed her pregnancy at first, but his best friend, the actor Tommy Abbott. The joint kit child comes into the world, just as Christopher dwells in Rome. Totally surprised he travels back to the U.S. in order to assist his weakened woman can. His paper thus missed important headlines. The consequence is dramatic for the young family: Christopher is released.
While he holds in the following months, more bad than good about water, Cicely follows an offer Tommy's auditioning for a director. Cicely is engaged and increases in the following years to become one of the biggest Broadway stars. She succeeds even Christopher retrieve his job at the newspaper, but who sent him for months to Siberia and China. Neither Cicely, nor their son have a lot of it, which is only a few days a year at home. The couple lives apart and yet not know Cicely the real reason why Christopher is pushing for a divorce. He suffers from an unknown but deadly disease which he has contracted in China. At a recent meeting, Christopher reveals to his wife that he swears to be faithful to him until death.
Production
Originally Francis Lederer should take on the role of Christopher Tyler in Next Time We Love, however, was not free at the time. Margaret Sullavan was able to prevail at Universal Pictures that you borrowed the almost unknown at the time James Stewart as her co-star at MGM. As James Stewart mannerist acted in early scenes of the film, Sullavan rehearsed many nights with him, so that he finally came back " changed from Universal [ MGM ] that [ they ] hardly recognized him. In his next films at MGM, he put a confidence and a mastery of his profession on the day that were just amazing. "

Criticism
The reviews for Next Time We Love was mixed. While Time Magazine Stewart's game as " natural, spontaneous and excellent all in all, " stressed Variety criticized the film, which " consists of a series of behaviors that often have no rhyme or reason " mainly. The film would be very corny and one of the " typical ... shameless tearjerker that ... blanks the studio bosses at any price [ Sullavan ]. "
