NGC 1023

NGC 1023 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Perseus. NGC 1023 is part of the NGC 1023 group named after her. Due to the rotation of NGC 1023, scientists have calculated that must be a supermassive black hole of about 40 to 60 million solar masses inside this galaxy, as would otherwise have to fly apart the galaxy. NGC 1023 has a small companion galaxy NGC 1023A with the label, together with which it is registered (as number 135) in the Arp catalog.

NGC 1023 was discovered on October 18, 1786 by the German - British astronomer William Herschel.
