NGC 1512

NGC 1512 is a barred spiral galaxy with a distance of about 30 million light years from Earth. It has a diameter of about 70,000 light-years, which is slightly smaller than the Milky Way, to which our solar system belongs. The galaxy was discovered in 1826 by James Dunlop.

Seen from Earth, only about four arc minutes southwest of NGC 1512 is the elliptical galaxy NGC 1510 in fact, also the interaction between the two galaxies is: . Latter is a companion galaxy of NGC 1512 and is responsible for some slight deformation of the outer spiral structure. The two galaxies are also listed together under the name of HIPASS J0403 -43 in the HIPASS catalog. In a study using the Hubble Space Telescope, a detailed recording of the center was made.
