NGC 2158

NGC 2158 is an open cluster in the constellation Gemini. He is only about 15 ' southwest of M35. The star cluster on November 16, 1784, discovered by Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel has a diameter of 5 ' and an apparent brightness of 8.6 mag. The star of more than 1 billion years old star cluster are highly concentrated, similar to a globular cluster. The cluster was therefore formerly retained for a globular cluster; because of his age, however, the identification of an open star cluster is unique.
