NGC 4183

NGC 4183 is a recorded in the New General Catalogue spiral galaxy that lies in the constellation of hunting dogs and about 55 million light- years away from Earth. The galaxy was discovered in 1778 by the astronomer William Herschel. NGC 4183 is slightly smaller than the Milky Way with a diameter of about 80,000 light years, has a weak appearing core and an open spiral structure, however, can not be viewed directly, because the view from Earth, similar as in the case of the Andromeda galaxy, falls on the side of the object.
