NGC 891

NGC 891 is the designation of a spiral galaxy in the constellation Andromeda. NGC 891 has an angular extent of 13.5 ' x 2.5 ' and an apparent magnitude of 10.1 mag. The galaxy is about 30 million light-years away from Earth and is part of the NGC 1023 group. Due to a mix-up the discovery of NGC 891 Caroline Lucretia Herschel was a long time attributed, in fact the galaxy was discovered on October 6, 1784 by William Herschel. Recordings of the galaxy using the Hubble Space Telescope show their details.
