Niangzi Pass

Niangziguan (Chinese娘子关/娘子关, Pinyin Niángzǐ Guan ) (or Niangzi Pass, also ladies pass ) is a mountain pass on the Great Wall of China 55 km west of Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei province. He is one of the main passes of the province of Shanxi to Hebei Taihang Mountains on the and is located in the same city, near the point where the railway line from Shijiazhuang to Taiyuan crosses the border between the two provinces.

The transition was located here in 1542 built during the Ming Dynasty. The gatehouse is located there is partially well preserved, it is built of brick and stone and wears a tower. He is flanked by more than 1,000 m high hills and the river Tao He winds its way through the lower-lying valley. This location was formerly a narrow passage for people and horses. The defense of the pass played a key role in the Battle of Xinkou between National Chinese and Japanese in 1937.

The name comes from the legend that during the Tang dynasty a troop soldiers under the command of Princess Pingyang, daughter of the first Tangkaises Li Yuan, at this point had their camp. Surrounded by a maze of hills and valleys, the Niangziguan was referred to as " The Ninth Pass of the Great Wall ".
