Nick Thometz

Nick Thometz ( born September 16, 1963 in Minneapolis ) is an American speed skater.

The Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984 should be his most successful games. In the course of over 500 meters, he finished 5th, behind his compatriot Dan Jansen. In the course of over 1000 meters, where he finished 4th place, ahead was the Norwegian Kai Arne Engelstad faster with 1/10 second and prevented the win an Olympic medal.

The Essent ISU World Cup 1985/86 brought him with consistently good performances in the standings all the way forward. In the overall standings, he was ranked 2 over 1000 meters and rank 3 over 500 meters.

In the Sprint World Championships in Quebec City, he won silver. With the fastest time over 1000 meters, it was after two routes lead. In the end he had to concede defeat to the Japanese Akira Kuroiwa. On March 19, 1987 Nick Thometz ran in Heerenveen in 36.55 seconds, a world record over 500 meters. The Essent ISU World Cup 1986/87 supplied to them by the new year not a single victory. In the second half of the season he caught up with one victory after another. After four victories over 500 yards and four more than 1000 meters, it led to the end undisputed rankings on.

In the following years he was his performance, neither repeat in the World Cup or the Olympic Games. He ended his international career after the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville. The season finale in speed skating World Cup 1991/92 in Butte to take him again from the podium. With space 2 over 1000 meters, he resigned from active competition.
