Nicola Benedetti

Nicola Benedetti, MBE ( born July 19, 1987 in West Kilbride, Scotland ) is a British violinist.

Life and career

Nicola Benedetti was born in 1987 in West Kilbride West of Scotland in the county of North Ayrshire as the daughter of an Italian and a Scot. At the age of four she began to learn violin playing. At age eight, she was a leader in the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain. She attended the Wellington School in Ayr and in 1997 at the Yehudi Menuhin School for young musicians in Surrey. At the end of the first year she played at the annual concert of the school in 1998 at the Wigmore Hall as a soloist. In Westminster Abbey she performed at a memorial concert, which paid tribute to the life and work of Yehudi Menuhin, on.

In 1999 Nicola Benedetti has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland at Holyrood Palace. 2000 played the teenager with the Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Opera. In 2002, she won the United Kingdom 's Brilliant Prodigy Competition. Shortly after leaving the fifteen- year-old's Yehudi Menuhin School and began private studies with Maciej Rakowski, former head of the English Chamber Orchestra.

2004 Benedetti won the final in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition with their presentation of the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Karol Szymanowski, accompanied by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Last but not least, this success brought her a 1 million pound sterling contract with German Grammophon / Universal Music Group Classics and Jazz for six albums.

With 20 years of Nicola Benedetti was awarded an honorary doctorate by Glasgow Caledonian University. It was thus one of the youngest winners of this award. In 2011 she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh. In 2012 she appeared as a soloist in the popular Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and reached by TV broadcasting all over the world millions of people.

Nicola Benedetti occurs temporarily with her boyfriend, German cellist Leonard Elschenbroich and the Russian pianist Alexei Grynyuk on as a trio. Another highlight in her career was a guest appearance on " Rod Stewart 's Christmas", a Christmas concert which was broadcast in late November 2012.

On New Year Nicola Benedetti in 2013 was awarded the British Empire Member of the Order of the British Empire ( MBE) for her services to music and charity.
