Niederwil (SO) to 31 December 2010, a municipality in the district livers of the canton Solothurn in Switzerland.

On 1 January 2011 merged Niederwil with the community Ried wood.

Geography

Niederwil is located on 545 m above sea level. M., 5.5 km north- northeast of the Canton main town of Solothurn (air line). The village is located in the little valley of the Lower Jurassic Siggern on the southern slope at the foot of Chamben, in the region of Lower Leberberg.

The area of ​​2.3 km ² large area includes a portion of the Jura south slope. The central part of the area is the extending in the east-west direction of the valley Gummenbachs between the white stone range in the north and Verena chain of the Jura small offshore anticline in the south. In this valley floor flows the springing on Balmberg Siggern, in which the Gummenbach opens below the village. South of Gummenbachs ranges of communal land on the wooded hilltop winter Halden (604 m asl; . Verena chain), north of which it extends to the meadow slopes on both sides of Siggern below Günsberg and Balm bei Günsberg. Here is 620 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Niederwil. From the municipality surface 1997 8 % were settlements, 37 % of forest and woody plants and 55 % to agriculture.

To Niederwil include the residential district Talacker (540 m above sea level. M. ) on the slope below Günsberg as well as some individual farms. Due to brisk construction activity the settlement area of Niederwil is already grown together almost seamlessly with that of Günsberg.

Population

With 395 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) Niederwil was one of the small communities of the Canton of Solothurn. Of the residents, 94.4 % speak German, 2.0% and 0.9 % speak Italian albanischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Niederwil amounted in 1850 to 213 residents in 1900 to 232 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population rose to 1920 on 309 people, and then to go back to 1960 to 245 inhabitants. Since then, a significant population increase was recorded.

Economy

Niederwil was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. In the 17th and 18th centuries there was in Niederwil a plaster mill, in which the above Günsberg mined gypsum has been processed. Also a rapeseed oil mill was operated by water power of Gummenbachs earlier.

Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have a certain role in the occupational structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In the church today small businesses in the construction and transport industry and the electrical industry are represented. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Solothurn region.

Traffic

The former municipality is located off the major thoroughfares on a road from Attiswil to Balm bei Günsberg. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) is located approximately 7 km from the town center. By Postbus course, which serves the route from Solothurn to Balm bei Günsberg, Niederwil is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village took place on June 13, 1307 under the name Niderwile. The name carries the meaning of the lower-lying hamlet, based on Balm bei Günsberg or Günsberg.

Since the Middle Ages Niederwil was under the rule Balm. Along with this rule reached the village in 1312 as an imperial fief to the counts of Strassberg and after various changes in ownership, 1411 at Solothurn. Since 1344, the city had held the high jurisdiction over Niederwil. In the 15th century the village was under the Bailiwick Balm, from 1487 it was part of the Bailiwick Flumenthal. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Niederwil belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the administrative district of Solothurn and from 1803 to the district livers. Niederwil does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Flumenthal - Günsberg.
