Nikolai Karpov

Nikolai Ivanovich Karpov (Russian: Николай Иванович Карпов; born November 8, 1929 in Moscow, † November 7, 2013 ) was a Soviet ice hockey player and coach.

Career

During his career, played the defender ZDSA Moscow, Leningrad ODO, HK Krylia Sovetov Moscow and Dynamo Moscow. 1952 Karpov was a Soviet runner with ZDSA Moscow, reaching from 1955 to 1959 five times in a row with the HK Krylia Sovetov Moscow Dynamo Moscow and the third place. With Dynamo Moscow he qualified in 1955 and 1956 for the final of the Soviet Cup. Overall, he scored 43 goals in 340 games in the Soviet league. He was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team. On 1 November 1954 he was in a game against Germany for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with the bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games 1960. For the national team, he scored three goals in 15 internationals. On February 25, 1960 he played his last international match. Later Karpov embarked on a career as a trainer and acted 1968-1970 and 1975-1977 as head coach at HK Spartak Moscow. With this he won in 1969 and 1976 the Soviet Championship title. From 1978 to 1979 Karpov stood at HK Lokomotiv Moscow behind the gang. It was followed by four years in the same position at Torpedo Gorky.
