Nikolay Kovalyov (politician)

Nikolai Dmitrievich Kovalev (Russian: Николай Дмитриевич Ковалёв; born August 6, 1949 in Moscow ) is a Russian politician and former intelligence chief.

1974 Kovalev was a member of the KGB. From July 1996 to July 1998 he was head of the Russian Federal Security Service FSB. He was succeeded by Vladimir Putin, the current president of Russia.

In 1997 he was appointed General of the Army, and elected in 1999 as a deputy in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. He is chairman of the Committee on Veterans Affairs.
