Noel Streatfeild

Mary Noel Streatfeild (born 24 December 1895 in Sussex, UK; † 11 September 1986) was an English writer.

Life

Streatfeild was born in 1895 in Sussex England. She came as the second of three daughters of the parish priest to the world. Her life is described in three semi- biographical novels: A Vicarage Family, Away from the Vicarage and Beyond the Vicarage. Noel was among the siblings as "ugly ", but was in appearance the most gracious. With the beginning of adult life she dreamed of a career in the theater and gained ten years experience as an actress in the drama troops Charles Doran and Arthur Bourchier. Your attachment to the stage was the basis of their known children's books, which often dealt with the struggles to start a career in the fine arts. The London Weekend Television produced a six-part series of "The Growing Summer" with Wendy Hiller as Aunt Dymphna. The series was filmed in Bantry House, in Ahakista and near Kilcrohane.

Her best-known children's book remained Ballet Shoes (1936 ), which was nominated in the year of publication for the Carnegie Medal, the Streatfeild 1938, received for her The Circus Is Coming.

Few books of the author have been translated into German.
