Nora Municipality

Nora is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Örebro County and the historic province of Västmanland. The main town of the municipality is Nora.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Bergslagen region.

History

The municipality was created in 1965 by merging the Nora Noraskog community and town of Nora.

Economy

The territory of the municipality until 1960 an important site for the Swedish iron production. In 1967 the last mine was shut down. Today, most companies are in the town of Nora small businesses. The largest private employer is Alfred Nobel's first company to Nitro Nobel AB, with around 400 employees in Gyttorp.
