Nora ( Nora spoken ) is a female first name and a short form of Eleanor, or the Irish name Honora (from Latin honor = "honor" ) are used. According to the dictionary of 1913 the name is also a modern form of Norberta ( " the Shining from the North" ).

The name was known by Henrik Ibsen's play " Et dukkehjem " (in German actually: " A Doll's House ", but usually " A Doll House" ) from in 1879.
