Norma Thrower

Norma Claire Thrower (Norma Claire Austin -Thrower; born February 5, 1936 in Adelaide, South Australia ) is a former Australian athlete.

Thrower won the gold medal in the 80 - meter hurdles before the Englishwoman Carole Quinton ( silver) and the Australian Gloria Wigney ( bronze ) at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1958 in Cardiff. At the Australian Championships, she won silver in 1951, bronze in 1953 and in the years 1955, 1957 and 1959 respectively gold.

With the Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, she won the bronze medal behind the Australian Shirley Strickland (Gold ) and the German Gisela Köhler ( silver).
