Norman Jewison

Norman Jewison, CC, O.Ont ( born July 21, 1926 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a Canadian film director and film producer.

After studying in Toronto he moved Jewison first to London, where he began to write screenplays. From 1952 to 1958 he produced television shows for Canadian television. As a specialist in entertainment shows, he then moved to Broadway in New York. For the American television Jewison directed the early 1960s as popular shows like the Judy Garland Show.

In 1962, he then gave his film debut as a director with the film A backpack full of hassles with Tony Curtis. For his films Norman Jewison has been nominated five times for an Oscar, but without winning it. For his life's work but he was honored in 1998 with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. 2009, the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to him.

In 1986 he founded a film school in Toronto, where he also works as a professor. He is the father of three children.
