North Picene language

The North - pikenische language is a far handed only in an inscription language unknown language family. Until today it is indecipherable, and remained isolated, or unclassified, but probably not Indo-European. Possible connections to other ancient European languages, Etruscan and Sabel Lischen are discussed. The language was spoken in ancient times in the area around Novilara in the province of Pesaro and Urbino of the Piceni. They came to this area in the 10th or 9th century BC. It is believed that they came by sea from the Balkans ago or a group of scattered Sabines were that were conducted according to an old legend of a woodpecker here ( today the emblem of the province of brands). The carved limestone stele with the inscription is located in Oliveriano Archaeological Museum in Pesaro. She came into the dating from the early Iron Age necropolis at Novilara to light.

Since North Pikenisch was written in altitalischem alphabet, it can be transliterated and thus "read", a translation ( interpretation ) is still not succeeded.

Not to be confused with the North Pikenisch certainly Indo-European South Pikenischen.
