Northern District (Israel)
The North District, also Northern District (Hebrew מחוז הצפון, Mechoz haTzafon ) is one of six districts in the State of Israel. It has an area of 3324 km ² ( 3484 km ² of land and water) and another 1154 km ² in the Golan Heights, which together 4478 km ² ( 4,638 complete) results. District capital is Nazareth.
The Golan Heights are counted by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics ( CBS), as part of Israel, therefore, they are in administrative matters as part of the North District. The United Nations does not recognize the Golan Heights as part of Israel, as a prerequisite for recognition would be the approval of Syria to the Israeli annexation of the Golan Heights.
Demography
The North District is the only District of Israel with an Arab majority.
Population data from the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics in 2005 revealed the following:
- Total Population: 1.1854 million
- Ethnic composition: Arabs: 622 400 ( 52.5 %)
- Jews: 523,400 ( 44.2 %)
- Other: 39,600 (3.3%)

- Muslims: 443 800 ( 37.4 %)
- Christians: 87,500 (7.4%)
- Unknown: 35,400 (3%)
Administrative divisions of North District
The North District is divided into five sub-districts ( nafa, majority nafot ):
- Tzefat or Safed,
- Kinneret (the area in the area of the Sea of Galilee )
- Jizre'el ( in the territory of Jezreel Valley ) and
- Akko
- Golan

The North District is divided into 17 municipalities, 61 municipalities and 15 regional administrations ( 2005).
