The Northwestern State University ( NSU or Northwestern also called ) is a State University in Natchitoches in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It was founded in 1884 as the Louisiana State Normal School and is now part of the University of Louisiana System. In the year 2005 9.847 students were enrolled. In addition to the main campus in Natchitoches there is a Faculty of Nursing in Shreveport and general locations in Leesville / Fort Polk and Alexandria. The NSU was one of the first six universities participating in the venture launched by NASA Joint Program ( JOVE ).
