Nová Bystrica

Nová Bystrica (Hungarian Újbeszterce ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia. It lies at the foot of the Kysucké Beskydy and the highlands Kysucká Highlands, in the valley of the river Bystrica, about 27 km from Čadca and 41 km from Žilina away.

The village was first mentioned in 1662 as Nová Beszterca. Beginning of 1981 the municipalities Riečnica and Harvelka were angliedert, however, were flooded in the 1980s by the construction of the reservoir Nová Bystrica mostly. In addition, the village belongs to the municipality Vychylovka ( 1696 as first mentioned as Wichilowska ).
