Novoť

Novoť ( until the 19th century Slovak " Novoty "; Hungarian Novoty - to 1892 Novoti ) a place and a municipality in Okres Námestovo of Žilinský kraj is in the far north of Slovakia.

Geography

The municipality is located in the mountains Beskydy Slovenské ( " Slovak Beskids "), a part of the Beskydy Mountains, along the streams and Novoťanka Tisoňovka. Novoť is 22 kilometers from Námestovo.

History

The town was founded in 1691 and initially was called after the founder M. Gyurczak Gyurkov (Slovak also Jurkov ), in 1712 he was then present name. Novoť belonged to the manor of Castle Orava. The population engaged in forestry and livestock farming, sheep farming, rafting, Fuhrwesen and crafts.

2001, the border crossing Novoť - Ujsoły was opened over the Beskid Mountains main ridge to Poland.
