Nuno da Cunha

Nuno da Cunha (* 1487, † March 5, 1539 ) was a Portuguese explorer.

He succeeded his father Tristão da Cunha to India and later to Rome. He was finance minister, as John III. 1528 appointed him governor-general of India. Cunha took possession of Mombasa, the king put on a new tribute and traversed the coast of Malabar.

His attempt to take Diu failed. However, he built a fortress at Diu in 1535, won by cunning the city and secured this power by his moderation towards the citizens. Dismissed and recalled by his government of his office, he died on the way home.
