Nuxia floribunda

The Nuxia are a genus, which is attributed to the family of Stilbaceae. It includes 15 species.

Description

Nuxia are shrubs or trees, which have a cracked crust. The leaves are opposite, in three or four groups, or rarely alternate. Usually they are stalked, the leaf blade is enlarged.

The flowers are in terminal thyrsi which individually are either of terminal branches form dense heads or in groups. The calyx is bell-shaped to cylindrical and viergelappt, on the outside there are fine glandular trichomes. The crown is regularly shaped, constricted vierlappig and annular. The corolla tube is cylindrical, often it is extended by the ovary around. On the outside, there are often glandular trichomes in the throat is a felted ring to find out trichomes. The four stamens have slender stamens, the anthers are far beyond the crown. The ovary is mostly covered with appressed trichomes, zweifächrig and provided with a central angle constant, shield -shaped placentation. In each ovary compartment contains a large number of ovules. The stylus is far beyond the crown.

The seed capsules are about as long as or slightly longer than the calyx -resistant. They contain small brown seeds.

Occurrence

The species are distributed from southern Africa to Liberia, Ethiopia to the southern Arabian region, as well as Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands.

The genus was first described in 1791 by Jean -Baptiste de Lamarck. It comprises 15 species, including:
