The Seekannen ( Nymphoides ) are a genus within the family of fever clover plants ( Menyanthaceae ). More than 40 species are distributed in the freshwater of the temperate to tropical areas of the world.

Description

Nymphoides species are mostly perennial, rarely annual herbaceous plants. There are mostly floating plants, the carpet-like cover lakes and ponds. They usually form short rhizomes with many stalk-like filaments ( stolons ). The stems in the flood water and sometimes form rootless nodes ( more nodes ). The alternate, sometimes almost against permanent leaves are stalked and easy with a smooth margin. You own at the juvenile stage underwater leaves and as mature plants floating leaves.

The flowers stand in groups at the nodes above the water surface. The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are rarely four, usually fünfzählig. They are usually heterostyl. The usually five sepals are fused only at their base. The usually five petals are usually grown only at their base and have a fringed edge. It's just a circle with five free, fertile stamens present. The ovary is upper constant. The style ends in a two-to three-lobed stigma. It can be formed with many seeds capsule fruits.

The genus has a wide distribution from the temperate to the tropical zones on the northern and southern hemispheres. There are over 40 species of Nymphoides:
