Obereck

View over the valley of the Wild Gutach on the Obereck

The Obereck is 1176.6 m above sea level. NHN after the candelabra and silver fir height of the third highest peak of the Black Forest. The three mountains are also in the part of space that is allocated to the Black Forest.

Location

The Obereck lies to the east of the municipality of Simon forest at the hamlet Behind Griesbach. In its rounded summit culminates at a particularly Schultiskopf sharp-edged ridge that runs down from the ridge between Rohrhardsberg and Brend westward into the more than 700 m deep valley running of the savages Gutach ( Simonswälder valley). It is bordered by the valleys of the tributaries Griesbach in the south and Haslach Simonswälder stream in the north ( Kostgfällschlucht ).

Geology

As well as most other mountains of the Black Forest is the mountain of gneiss. The original red sandstone ceiling was removed, especially during the ice ages. Traces of the Ice Age glaciation, especially karartige shapes and moraines are clearly visible in the northern slopes.

Vegetation

The original mixed forest inventory has been largely replaced as a result of intensive forestry by spruce.

Tourism

The Obereck is accessed by several hiking trails, especially through the rocky, challenging climb over the ridge, however, is hardly linked to the near Kostgfällschlucht. It is not well known. Due to the strong forest cover provides the main summit neither much of a view, still good conditions for skiing (a few downhill slopes, no lifts). Accommodation is available in the surrounding districts of Simon forest.
