The Ocean Dream (German Ocean Dream ) is a cruise ship, which is now for the Spanish cruise line Pullmantur Cruceros in use. The ship as the first new construction project of the American company Carnival Cruise Lines became known.

History

Construction and commissioning

The current Ocean Dream in 1980 given as " Tropicale " for the American company Carnival Cruise Lines, yard number 234 at the Danish Aalborg Vaerft in order. The launch took place on 31 October 1981. The ship was delivered to the owner AVL Marine Inc, a subsidiary of Boatyard based in Liberia in December of the same year. The technical design of the ship comes from the British company Technical Marine Planning, the interior was designed by the naval architect Joe Farcus. The typical shape of the chimney Carnival ships was realized for the first time the construction of the " Tropicale ".

Use

After putting her owners chartered the " Tropicale " for next 10 years at Carnival Cruise Lines, until it passed into the ownership of Carnival Corporation & plc 1991. The " Tropicale " first ran from the base port to Miami Cruises to the Caribbean. In September 1982, followed by the first missions on the U.S. West Coast. After deployments in San Juan ( around 1990 ) and New Orleans ( around 1994), was the " Tropicale " was the first ship of the company, which was used for cruises to Alaska. In the late 1990s, the shipping company tried unsuccessfully to use the ship on the Asian market. Then the " Tropicale " was used again in the Caribbean.

On September 7, Carnival announced its intention to sell the ship to the Italian subsidiary, Costa Crociere SpA. After her last cruise for Carnival Cruise Lines in February 2001, the " Tropicale " was transferred to Genoa, where it was rebuilt and modernized at the yard T. Mariotti for the European market. Here also the " Carnival" chimney was replaced by a typical for the company Costa cylindrically shaped variant. The costs were estimated at 25 million euros. Costa Crociere SpA continued the " Costa Tropicale " one on routes in the Mediterranean and South America.

After the ship at the Fincantieri shipyard was modernized in Palermo, was the end of 2005, the sale of P & O Cruises Australia. There it was used until 2008 under the name " Pacific Star " from Brisbane in the Southeast Pacific.

In May 2008, the Spanish tour operator Pullmantur Cruises took over the ship and set it according to a study conducted in Singapore modernization under the name " Ocean Dream " back in service. Its field was the Caribbean.

Since May 2012, the ship of the Japanese Peace Boat organization for the global ocean cruises is used.

Equipment

The " Ocean Dream " has 12 suites and 478 cabins of different categories. In normal occupancy, the ship can accommodate 1,022 passengers, the theoretical maximum capacity is over 1,400 passengers. The ship offers four restaurants and six bars and a theater. The swimming pools are located in the rear of the promenade deck and on the Lido deck. In addition to two hot tubs on the promenade deck, there is another hot tub on the sun deck.

Special events

  • In February 1996, the ship near Tampa ran onto a sandbar and had to be towed free.
  • In September 1999, the ship drove two days after a fire in the engine room to maneuver in the Gulf of Mexico. After the machines were put into operation, the ship returned to Tampa.
  • In July 2007 and in January 2008 it came in heavy seas in the waters around New Zealand in damage to windows and antenna systems as well as leaks in corroded points of the external skin.
