History

The brewery was founded by the local Count in Oettingen in 1333 first mentioned, the forest source brewery in Fürnheim (now part of Wassertruedingen near Oettingen ) was first mentioned in 1731. The Princely Brauhaus zu Oettingen was taken over in 1956 by the family Kollmar and later under the direction of Günther Kollmar ( * 1937, † 2013) transformed to Oettinger Brauerei GmbH. On the labels of Oettinger beers has been mentioned due to the time earlier acquisition of forest source " since 1731 ".

The brewery supplied initially to food markets and specialized it to brew low -priced beers. From the early 1990s, was put on a radical modernization to increase productivity. On the initiative of Günther Kollmar the company began direct supply to retail without the involvement of wholesalers. In addition, (eg leases ) waived cooperation with the gastronomy; the decreasing supermarkets, beverage stores and gas stations are supplied in direct sales.

In Eastern European breweries Oettinger beer is brewed under license since 2008 in Moscow (brewery Moskovskaya Piwowarennaja Kompanija / Московская Пивоваренная Компания ), since 2011 in Minsk (brewery Krinitsa / Криница ) and in Radomyshl (brewery piwo besalkogolnij - industrial complex / пиво - безалкогольний комбінат ).

Market position

Price and quality

The success of the brand Oettinger is probably among other things, the low price (around 25 to 70 cents per ½ liter) attributable. Der Spiegel wrote in 2005:

" The many still unknown beer is now drawn past all the precious Pilsenern that with huge advertising expenses conquered the market in the nineties. Now [ ... ] Oettinger has secretly become the number one, the best-selling beer in the Republic. In advertising, the company waived completely. "

Despite the low selling price the profit margin is so great that it comes in the retail price differences.

In an interview with Spiegel TV senior director Günther Kollmar said:

" The term cheap beer is actually already a Abqualifizierung. But it is only the attempt. Everything that market adjusted in Germany, is well marketed, which is suddenly cheap. [ ... ] Just, everyone drinks it. The success speaks for itself! "

Since 2013 guarantees the brewery to produce their beers without genetically modified raw materials, and must bear the seal on the products without genetic engineering.
