Old Lyme is a town in New London County in the U.S. state of Connecticut, with about 7600 inhabitants ( 2010). Old Lyme is with the neighboring town of Lyme the namesake for Lyme disease. In Old Lyme is the U.S. headquarters of Sennheiser.

History

Old Lyme is located on the eastern shore of the mouth of the Connecticut River and was on February 13, 1665 from lying on the west bank city of Saybrook founded.

When New England hurricane in 1938 parts of the city were destroyed.

Old Lyme art colony

At the beginning of the 20th century, an artists' colony was founded in Old Lyme, which exists to this day. Many major American Impressionists lived in the colony, including Childe Hassam, Edward Charles Volkert, Willard Metcalf, Wilson Irvine, Robert William and Henry Ward Ranger Vonnoh. The Florence Griswold House, the seat of the colony, is today a museum of Impressionist painting.
