Olmo grapes

Rubired is a red grape variety. It is a new breed of Harold Olmo between varieties Alicante and Tinto Cão Ganzin. The crossing was made already in 1938 year at the University of California in Davis, California. It was simultaneously released in 1958 with the variety Royalty. Breeding goal was to produce deep dark wines to produce a Californian counterparts for port wine. In California, it occupies more than 4,000 acres of vineyards and Valley is grown mainly in Central. Smaller stocks is also available in Australia (approximately 600 acres ) and Mexico (about 500 acres ).

The vigorous growth and yielding variety produces wines with a very dark color. Therefore, it is very good ( internationally known as Teinturier ) as a dyer grape suitable and is used as a colorant blending partner for California wine and grape juice for coloring.
