Reception

Jason Ankery are at allmusic 4 of 5 points on the board and writes:

"Through the plate the wheels by Jeff Mangum are always on the verge of taking off. His songs are cryptic and crazy, his ideas fast and exciting and together they call the living room recordings concept out of the basement and into a brave new world. "

Daniel Good on magazine Twisted Ear awards 4.5 of 5 points and writes in 2008:

" Mangums art is to make music that people do not care, so that people identify with her. You stop by and share it with your best friends. After listening to the songs Mangum is your best friend. That's his magic - and that's why we find it sad that he does not produce more music. All in all, On Avery Iceland a solo album - excited, blurred and fragile. Profound, recurrent poetry, which drives the rickety vehicle. "

The album was ranked # 35 of the annual Village Voice Jazz & Pop Critics' Poll. Spin called it one of the ten best albums of the year 1996, which " have not you heard ."
