Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ... is the debut album by Raekwon ( the Chef ), published in 1995 under Loud Records. All tracks on the album were produced by RZA. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ... is one of the most influential hip hop albums of the 1990s.

Genesis

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ... is also known as The Purple Tape because the cassette when publishing was the color purple. Originally, the album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Niggaz be called.

RZA changed his style from the scratchy, kung fu beats the formerly distinguished him and used this much more Classical and Soul samples.

On the Tracks Shark Niggas ( Biters ) and Ice Water Raekwon dissed the Brooklyn rapper The Notorious BIG and the bad-boy family. The Notorious B.I.G. answered one year later on the track Kick In The Door among others, Raekwon. On the track " Heaven & Hell" Raekwon dissed the West Coast.

Many well-known rapper from the Wu -Tang Clan as Ghostface Killah, who is represented on almost every track, have on Cuban Linx Only Built 4 ... a guest appearance. It is worth mentioning that the first rapper Nas outside of the Wu - Tang Clan was, who had a guest appearance on an album by a Wu -Tang Clan member. Nas rapped on Verbal Intercourse probably the most complex lines of his life. Nas part was described by The Source as " memorable ".

Criticism

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ... was one of 16 hip-hop albums, which was picked up by Pitchfork Media in the list of the best albums of the 90's. It was also one of the 33 hip-hop albums that made it in Rolling Stone among the most important albums of the 90's. Stylus Magazine named Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ... one of the best hip hop albums of all time, Allhiphop.com called it "unbelievable" and rapper Busta Rhymes calls it " one of the best albums of all time ". The Source Magazine awarded it with 5 mics and took it a year later in the Top 100 of the best hip hop albums. Considered by many fans, it is referred to as the best solo release of the Wu -Tang Clan. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ... helped Ghostface Killah on his debut and was the inspiration for many Rapkarrieren. Hip- Hop Connection, the world's biggest Hip Hop magazine chose Only Built 4 Cuban Linx for best hip - hop album of the last period (1995 - 2005).
