After 1845 a bridge was pulled across the river, the railway reached the present site of the station. But this was quite out of town surrounded by fields.

A first station building was built around 1860. The present building dates from 1899 and was built in eclectic style. In the interior there is still the old ticket hall from this period. The station has five tracks. These have a special feature, namely, they run an arc instead of a straight line.
