Opuntia aurantiaca is a flowering plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet aurantiaca means (Latin aurantiacus ) orange -colored '.

Description

Opuntia aurantiaca growing shrubby, is richly branched and reaches stature heights of up to 30 centimeters. Due to the spread, creeping up a bit upright branches arising tight groups. The dark green to almost black, linealischen to club-shaped drive sections 5 to 15 inches long, 1 to 1.5 inches wide and 1 to 1.5 inches thick. The large areolae are grayish white, short glochids light yellow. The two-to three ( rarely up to six) pfriemlichen, straight spines are brownish to yellowish, and 1 to 3 inches long. The upper of them are strong, the lower occasionally thin and bristle-like.

The deep yellow to orange-yellow flowers are up to 4 inches long. The pear- shaped, a little purple fruits are heavily spined and reach a length of up to 3 inches.

Systematics and distribution

Opuntia aurantiaca is in Uruguay, the Argentine provinces of Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires as well as possibly spread Paraguay.

The first description was in 1833 by John Lindley. A synonym is nomenklatorisches Cactus aurantiacus ( Gillies ex Lindl. ) Gillies (1839 ).
