Orebić

Orebic [ ɔrɛbitɕ ] listen? / I (it. Sabbioncello ) is a small town on the Croatian peninsula Peljesac and belongs to Croatia Dubrovnik-Neretva county. The city is located on the south side of the peninsula, protected by the 961 m high Sveti Ilija (Saint Elias ). Directly across from Orebic there is the important Adriatic passenger port Korčula, also of historical significance. Orebic itself has a Ferry to the island of Korcula and evolves - with one of the few sandy beaches in Croatia - again an important tourist destination in southern Dalmatia.

The Franciscan monastery (15th century) with the Church " Our Lady of Angels " is located above the resort, where the viewer presents one of the most impressive panoramas in the country. In the 19th century, Orebic was the home town of many important captains and also had one of the largest shipping companies domiciled, the Associazione di Marittima Sabioncello. A Maritime Museum is also reminiscent of this time in which sailors and captains on the high seas all over the world were on the road, which is the case even today. The characteristic women's costumes from Orebic show, among other things, this relationship to seafaring. The costumes of the women captain gave accurate information about the social status and wealth of their spouse.

Orebic is the starting point for excursions to the summit of Sveti Ilija and Nakovana Cave ( Spila Nakovana ). Because of the location (Peninsula), located Orebic offers as a starting point for excursions to the neighboring islands of Korcula, Mljet and Hvar and to Ston, Dubrovnik and Narona / Vid.
