Oregon Coast

The Oregon Coast (german Oregon Coast ) is the geographical term for the coast of the U.S. state of Oregon on the Pacific Ocean ( Pacific Coast ). Since the introduction of the Oregon Beach Bill 1967 any access to the public is to allow.

The largest part of Highway No. 101 (Highway 101) runs along the coast.

Geography

The coastal areas are divided traditionally into three parts:

  • North Coast ( The North Coast) from the Columbia River to Neskowin
  • Central Coast (The Central Coast) from Lincoln City to Florence
  • South Coast (The North Coast) from Reedsport to the California border.

Northern part

Some of the name Oregon Coast is only used for the northern part of the coastal district, especially for the places of Seaside. In the latter understanding of the term, including the following towns on the Oregon coast are called ( north to south):

  • Cannon Beach
  • Garibaldi
  • Tillamook
  • Lincoln City
  • Depoe Bay
  • Newport
  • Waldport
  • Florence (1970 found here a large Walexplosion instead ).
  • Coos Bay, with about 16,000 inhabitants, the largest city on the coast.

Commercial ports do not exist due to lack of water depth there, but there are a few marinas. Especially between Depoe Bay and Newport, the height difference between the leading along the cliff road and the sea is very large. The closer you get to the city of Florence, the less is the difference in height. Shortly before the city of Florence from the north the road leaves the Pacific and now runs more in a forest. Here trends are already starting to realize that the height differences are not so huge and slow pass over the cliffs into dunes. The remoteness from urban areas ( at least 100 km ) are the places rather rustic and form a mixture of fishing village, tourist resort and artist colonies. The beaches are sand. Between Coos Bay and Florence, the Oregon Dunes, a 50 km long dune area, whose highest peaks measure 150 meters extend.

A special feature is the whale watching in the fall and spring of stilt houses or upstream peninsulas as Yaquina Head. From the lighthouse, Yaquina Head Lighthouse has a good overview of the coastal strip. The coast is one of the most popular destinations for day or weekend trips in the summer. Americans in particular the western states are to be found here as a tourist

Southern

The southern part is rocky and strandlos. In the south, a sea lion rock is ( Seal Rock State Wayside ). There you can see some wild sea lions and tidal fountains.

Typical of the Oregon coast are the picturesque heuhaufenähnlichen single rock ( Haystacks ), which protrude from the sea.

Because of its location on the Pacific Ocean coast of this tsunami is at risk.
