Orient Forest Regional Natural Park

The Regional Natural Park of the Orient Forest (in French Parc naturel régional de la Forêt d' Orient ) extends in the French department of Aube, in the Champagne- Ardenne region. It is located in the forest landscape Forêt d' Orient and is drained in the north east of the rivers Auzon and Aube and southwest of Barse and Seine. The park office is located in the municipality of Piney (48 ° 17 ' 19 " N, 4 ° 23' 28" O48.2886111111114.3911111111111Koordinaten: 48 ° 17 ' 19 " N, 4 ° 23' 28" E ).

The nature reserve was established in 1970 and covers an area of around 70,000 hectares and has a catchment area of about 20,000 inhabitants. The Nature Park consists of 50 municipalities in the cantons

  • Vendeuvre- sur -Barse
  • Lusigny -sur -Barse and
  • Piney

Landscape

The heart of the Natural Park are three artificial lakes, which serve as reservoirs for the Seine and Aube, avoid in severe water management a flood of Paris and to form a buffer to maintain the navigation at low water levels. You are connected to the inlet and outlet channels of the respective flow.

  • Lac d' Orient (surface area: 24 km ², volume: 205 million m³, flow system Seine, start: 1966 )
  • Lac d' Auzon -Temple (surface area: 20 km ², volume: 148 million m³, flow system Aube, start: 1990 )
  • Lac Amance ( Area: 5 sq km, volume: 22 million m³, flow system Aube, start: 1990 )

The lakes are situated in a portion of the moisture Champagne (fr: Champagne humid ) and are surrounded by dense forests and wetlands. During a nature reserve has been set up in the Lac d' Auzon -Temple, the other two lakes are used for tourism and sporty strong. The peripheral areas of the nature reserve are mainly in the field of dry Champagne ( fr.: Champagne Crayeuse ) and are used mainly for agricultural purposes.
