The University of Osaka (大阪 大学Osaka Japanese daigaku ), short HanDai (阪 大) is one of the most respected Japanese national universities.

The eleven faculties spread over several locations in the north of Osaka Prefecture. The student population is 23.561 ( 15,562 undergraduates and 7,999 in the master's and doctoral course as of March 2014).

Locations

The university has three campuses. History

A spiritual origin of the University is the private school Kaitokudō (懐 徳 堂), which was founded in 1724. During the Edo period, the Kaitokudō served as a school for the people of Osaka and was closed in 1869. 1916, the School of Kaitokudō Memorial Foundation ( Kaitokudō Kinenkai ) was rebuilt.
