Óscar Figueroa (weightlifter)

Óscar Albeiro Figueroa Mosquera ( born March 27, 1983 in Zaragoza, Departamento de Antioquia, Colombia) is a Colombian weightlifter. He won a silver medal in the featherweight at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Career

Óscar Figueroa grew up in Zaragoza. In 1992 his parents moved with him to Cartagena in the Valle del Cauca, because in Zaragoza due to the civil war, the situation had become intolerable. In Cartagena, he worked as a youth in various sports such as soccer, basketball, karate and weightlifting, where he stayed eventually. Meanwhile, the 1.65 meter tall athlete belongs to the Sports Club League vallecaucana de Halterofia and being or has been trained by Jaiber Manajarrez and Oswaldo Pinilla.

His first international competition, he played at the World Youth Championship (U 20) in Prague. He started there in the bantamweight and reached 245 kg ( 110-135 ) in a duel a good 5th place. In 2001 he was at the Junior World Championship (U 20 ) in Thessaloniki, but far more successful, because he was there in the bantamweight Junior World Champion. His performance was 260 kg ( 117.5 to 142.5 ) in a duel. In 2002 he was at the Junior World Championship (U 20) in Havirov not defend that title. During the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing In March 2008 he won in Callao / Peru at the Pan American Championships in the featherweight with a duel capacity of 304 kg ( 137-167 ) without full output. For this reason he had planned for Beijing very much and achieved in training with a personal record 178 kg in bumping. Also at the World Cup 2010 Oscar Figueroa could not participate due to injury. At the 2011 World Championships in Paris but he was at the start, and came there featherweight 308 kg ( 138-170 ) back on the thankless fourth place. A month earlier he had set a personal record at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara as the winner of the spring weight 312 kg ( 137-175 ).

In 2012, he won just standing in a light weight at the Pan American Cup in Antigua / Guatemala, 64.5 kg of body weight, with a duel capacity of 330 kg ( 145-185 ). At the World Championships in 2013 in Wroclaw Oscar Figueroa was able to convince again. He scored there in a duel 316 kg ( 139-177 ) and was thus on the 3rd place. With its power and jerk of 177 kg he was even world champion in this discipline.
