Oscar Osthoff

Oscar Paul Osthoff ( born March 23, 1883 in Milwaukee, † December 9, 1950 in Indianapolis ) was an American weightlifters and swimmers.

At the Olympic Games in 1904 in St. Louis, he won the gold medal in the armed struggle more in weight lifting. In this competition, had had to be completed with one arm, which will be evaluated by judges ten different exercises. In beidarmigen weightlifting, in which counted only the weight lifted, Osthoff was second behind the Greek Pericles Kakousis.

Despite his Olympic medals Osthoff was far better known as a float. He swam in short- distance races for the Milwaukee AC and the University of Wisconsin. In 1907 he achieved a new record in the championships of the colleges. Still in 1923 he won the State Championships of Wisconsin. In addition to his work as an engineer, he also coached football and track and field teams at Washington State University.
