The images are quite Zwintschers in the picturesque tradition of Cranach or Holbein. They are not subjective snapshots, but a realistic recording in the style of the old masters. Ludwig Richter, Moritz von Schwind and Arnold Böcklin have influenced the young artist. With the painter Sascha Schneider (Rudolf Karl Alexander Schneider) he formed a close friendship.

Since 1903 Zwintscher taught as a professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. He was a very thorough, pedantic painter and a principled opponent of impressionism. A contemporary once described him as " a good Saxony and true son of the Central German level, but also something strange business and spun. "

Oskar Zwintscher died in 1916 in Dresden. His grave is on the artist Cemetery in Dresden's Loschwitz. The grave figure, a Éphèbe with lowered torch, comes from Sascha Schneider.
