Osser

The Osser (Czech: Ostry ) is a mountain on the border between Germany and the Czech Republic, located in the Bavarian Forest and the Bohemian Forest and belonging to Künischen Mountains.

Location and description

A distinction between the directly located on the border Great Osser ( 1293 m) ( Velky Ostry ) and the west of it all situated in Bavaria little Osser ( 1266 m) ( Maly Ostry ). Both peaks are due to their pointed shape as unique in the Bavarian Forest. They shape the backdrop of the Lamer angle which is formed by the towns of Fürth, Lam and Lohberg. The Osser is located in the district of Cham, and thus in the district of Upper Palatinate.

The Czechs call the Osser also affectionately known as the " breasts of the Mother of God". Of the natives of the house Mountain Lam is often called the " Matterhorn of the Bavarian Forest ."

At the summit of the Great Ossers is directly situated in Bavaria at the border Osserschutzhütte "House Willmann " of the Bavarian Forest Club, who farmed during the summer months and also offers overnight accommodations. The pointed shape of the immediately adjacent situated on the German side summit requires that you have to cover the last 50 vertical meters climbing slightly. Since the Osser one of the most beautiful mountains in the whole Bavarian Forest is, he is very busy on nice summer weekends of German and Czech hikers and tourists. From the summit cross, you have a wide view to the Czech Republic on the Bohemian Forest, the nearby Arber and on clear days even to the Alps.

Lead to Osser various hiking trails, however, require slip resistance. The starting points are Lohberg, Silver Creek, Lam, semi parking or Lambach. All trails are steep, rocky and thus relatively tiring.

History and legends

In the 12th century Osserburg was built on the summit of Ossers, which is now completely destroyed.

To the Osser entwine several fairy tales and legends. Probably the most popular and most famous legendary figure is the Osserriese with his stories. It is said, also, that it is said to have once been a third summit.
