Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski

Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski ( pronunciation: [ ɔstrɔv ʲ ɛt͡s ɕf ʲ ɛntɔkʂɨsk ʲ i] ) is a town in Poland, in the Province of the Holy Cross. The city used to live mainly by the steel industry, whose importance has been greatly reduced but.

History

The first mention of a settlement on the site of the present Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski date from the 14th century. 1624 was the place the municipal law. In 1826 opened the first sugar factory on Polish territory in Ostrowiec. In 1919, the city became the seat of a powiat. In an administrative reform in 1975, the city lost this status and became part of the Province of Kielce. In a new reform in 1999, she was once again the seat of the powiat Ostrowiecki and part of the Province of the Holy Cross.
