Oswaldo Brenes Álvarez

Oswaldo Álvarez Brenes (* August 5, 1942 in Liberia, Costa Rica, † February 11, 2013 ) was Bishop of Ciudad Quesada.

Life

Oswaldo Álvarez Brenes studied from 1961 to 1966 in the seminary of Paso Ancho and received on 18 December 1966, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He was pastoral in the diocese Tilarán Liberia active. 1991/92 he completed theological studies at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica in Heredia and a degree in Religious Education at the Universidad Católica de Costa Rica. From 1994 to 2006 he taught at the Major Seminary of San José, and was its vice- rector (1997-2000) and Rector of study (2001-2003 ) and its rector from 2003 to 2006. 2007 he was a curate in the parish of Our Lady of the Angels in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, and employees of the Department of vocations in the diocese. In 2008 he became vicar general of the diocese Tilarán.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 19 March 2008 as Bishop of Ciudad Quesada. The Apostolic Nuncio to Costa Rica, Archbishop Osvaldo Padilla, donated to him on 24 May of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of San José de Costa Rica, Hugo Barrantes Ureña, and the Bishop of Cartago, José Francisco Ulloa Rojas.
