Otep

Otep (also: OTEP or OT3P ) is an American Nu-Metal-/Alternative-Metal-Band, which was founded in 2000 in Los Angeles, California. Currently, the band consists of singer / writer Otep Shamaya text, bassist "Evil" J. McGuire, guitarist Rob Patterson and drummer Mark Bistany there.

History

Soon after Otep Shamaya and "Evil" J. McGuire, the band had formed in 2000, they went on one of their first live performances the attention of the music manager Sharon Osbourne to be. Although the band at this time could not even show a demo recording, Osbourne allowed them an appearance at Ozzfest 2001, a music festival which is organized jointly by her and her husband Ozzy Osbourne.

Based on the strong performances eventually the label Capitol Records, the band signed and published in 2002 the first album Sevas Tra ( a ananym for "Art Saves" to German " art saves" ) and in 2004 the second album House of Secrets. In this can be heard as a guest musician Greg Wells and Joey Jordison ( Slipknot ).

After several line-up changes and a change to the label Koch Records, appeared there in 2007, the third album, The Ascension, which was produced by Dave Fortman and includes guest appearances by Holly Knight and Greg Tribbett ( Mudvayne ). Both this album and the previous House of Secrets are characterized by aggressive metal music and the alternately whispering and screaming voice Shamayas, the content greatly in their emotional texts speaking out against the policies of the Bush administration, in particular the restriction of civil liberties.

In August 2009 fourth album, Smash the Control Machine was released under the label Victory Records. Since then the band plays back in their line-up in 2003, with Rob Patterson on guitar and Mark Bistany on drums after they left the band at that time. On one song from the new album of the Japanese / American musician Koichi Fukuda ( Static-X ) and the American musician Emilie Autumn have a common guest appearance.
