Ottó Foky

Ottó Foky ( born June 15, 1927 in Sárhida; † 3 September 2012 in Budapest) was a Hungarian graphic artist, film puppet designer and animated film director.

Life

After a pedagogical training Foky first worked as an art teacher. In his classes, the illustration and creating picture stories played a major role. After that, he began studying at the Magyar Iparműveszeti Főiskola, today Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem in Budapest, where he graduated in 1956 with a diploma in the fields of puppet film and stage. From 1956 to 1962 he worked in Pannonia Stúdió. There he worked with the animated film director István Imre. In the early 1960s he took part in several Hungarian art exhibitions in Prague, Belgrade and Stockholm. Since 1962 he worked as an animation director. In the 1970s and 1980s, he produced numerous animated series for the Hungarian Television. These were mostly fairy tales, children's films and commercials. This classic characters like A legkisebb ugrifüles, Mirr -Murr, Misi Mókus or tevé Maci emerged. The films of Foky were seen on many European film festivals. In the 1990s Foky retired, but continued to work with his wife Emmi together as an illustrator of fairy tales. His work has been honored with more than twenty prices.
